I met Heidi 8 years ago while working with Faustson to help implement lean manufacturing and ISO quality training. When H2 was formed, they had valuable expertise, and thus we added them to our short list of approved partners for Manufacturers Edge, the CO Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). We have contracted with H2 for a number of programs, including technology and innovation workshops, sales training, and in support of our Federal Additive Manufacturing Grant due to their expertise using additive manufacturing. H2 is a partner who helps to keep Colorado on the front end of innovative manufacturing technologies.
Heidi is passionate about manufacturing, and not just for Faustson and our clients, but for all manufacturing, particularly in our state of Colorado. When she is working with other machine shop owners and managers, Heidi doesn’t look at them as competitors – she views interactions with others in the industry as collaborative. In the past decade plus that I have worked with Heidi, I continue to witness first hand her relentless pursuit in making manufacturing great here in Colorado.
H2 provided excellent guidance for AMPT’s entry into the world of additive manufacturing. They have great connections throughout the industry and were able to connect us with the right players for pursuing our efforts. H2 also provided valuable advice on our additive road map and identified several pitfalls to avoid.
"There are four pillars, and everyone who has worked with me, for me, has heard this. I think that you have to have heightened self-awareness, you have to have ingenuity, you've got to lead from compassion, and here's the biggie, heroic ambition. And if there was ever a time for heroic ambition, it was now.
"Hostetter in particular is well known in Colorado for her political acumen for advancing AM—a sort of Rocky Mountain evangelist for additive who crisscrosses the state, networking on behalf of Faustson as well as H2 Manufacturing Solutions, her consulting service for advanced manufacturing. So in 2014 when Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper pushed forward infrastructure legislation to start an advanced industry accelerator branch fund, Hostetter seized the opportunity. The grant proposal stipulated that the accelerator would have to benefit the state’s seven top industry sectors, and involve private industry and a nonprofit as well as an academic institution."
We hired H2 to come in and help identify what were the real linchpins, the 2 or 3 items that could be identified and improved on that would make the most difference in our struggles. Heidi and her team swooped in and within 2 weeks had accurately identified the various issues, had created new processes, new forms, and new tools and then TRAINED all our staff on them, so that we literally felt like a new company in just two weeks! Who does that !?? Morale improved, workflow improved, frustration and errors greatly decreased, the time from PO to completion was reduced, streamlining the whole process. Heidi and her team interacted seamlessly with my team, engaging with them on a deep level in their day to day, so they could make changes in real time and they continue to be on stand by to help adjust the new tools if needed, as we get used to them. Our staff were consulted at each and every step, so not only were they able to give crucial input but H2 made them feel like an integral part of the team and process, which I appreciated. Everyone was so happy with the entire process and the results were nothing short of amazing!
Heidi has personally helped me become a better CEO and manager in almost every way. It's pretty incredible to have someone who can fix your shop but then also help you where you are struggling on a personal level within the business, as most of us owner/operators have a hard time separating our selves from our businesses (I know I do) Heid provided guidance on crucial negotiations and lent her years of experience many times, so I was able to make better decisions that would affect the future of the company. All of this was done in a warm, personal, yet very professional manner. I am not one who is easily impressed but once again, I can't recommend Heidi and H2 highly enough, there is just no one like them anywhere.
I love the way H2 did the trainings because they were so custom tailored to my specific needs and business and because they were private sessions, we were able to go at my pace (sometimes faster, sometimes slower) and they were wonderful in making sure that I understood all the information well before moving on. They even created a sales binder for me to track all my sales calls and visits and explained in depth how to best utilize it. Even though the entire training was incredibly helpful, I think the two best things were when we did role playing so I could learn how to handle runarounds and blocks from potential clients. Once I was comfortable roleplaying with them, Adam took me out on actual sales calls so I could watch the process and then do the process on my own with him right there, guiding things if needed. I found this to be absolutely invaluable. I feel that this has increased my confidence and skill set in sales 100-fold and I'm actually excited to start doing sales calls for the business. I have no doubt this will lead to both short term and long-term increases in our revenue which will help us grow and add more space and jobs.
We brought in H2 in when we started looking at additive manufacturing possibilities. They gave us outstanding insight into how it can benefit our business, and we are in the process of implementing 3D printing now. H2 is on top of the latest technologies, and they offer a fresh look at the challenge’s manufacturers face. Working with them everyday on the project was a pleasure. H2 does so much for manufacturing in this community with their volunteer efforts. They’re not just in it for the money.
